The story follows a girl named ‘Cinder’ - a retelling story of the folktale of Cinderella. however, there is a twist as to how all the stories have but this plot twist gives us those series by adding and mixing the other folktales of the Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White.
The first book follows Cinder in New Beijing as the gifted mechanic and how comes across the prince that made me fall for, and with secrets unfold that question her freedom, loyalty, and a betrayal which got me to the edge of my seat as I read more till it was over - ending with more questions than answers.
In the second book, the story and the world expand and progress, and the series unfolds but more secrets are found and added - made me so eager and hooked to know those secrets and find the answers but making me fall in love with the characters in every scene.
In the third book, the secrets are out and that’s where it got kind of boring for me that I stopped reading the book every chapter as the book could’ve been shorter and removed some parts that are not necessary as the story of Julian and where Cress and Throne crashed into Earth and more pages and parts further into the ending as well.
The last book of the series was a train wreck of emotions and many things happening – although the progress of the storyline in this book got way more pages than necessary like the chapter (spoilers incoming) where it illustrates Pearl’s progress which I think was unnecessary as it did not add more to the main storyline.
Overall, the storyline was differently rich and creative in a way it still connected to the main elements of the re-telling of the fairytales such as the “poisoned” Winter with the candies and the tech genius Cress. I loved how the relationships developed – the love-crazy relationship between Winter and her Jacin, Ze’ev, and Scarling, and the friendship of Throne and Cinder, and Iko (am envious and jealous of Cinder but %100 friendship goals!). And the world-building was so lively and amazing as I read and pictured the scenes like I was just watching a TV show. The most scene I loved was where Cinder or “Queen Selene” was hiding in the throne room.
the series was so great and amazing and I hardcore recommend it!! like seriously, u wouldn’t be reading this if you weren’t a bit interested.
My rating overall for the whole series will be 4.5/5 ⭐️
